The upcoming curling season is fast approaching! With that being said, Team Quello is well underway preparing for what this year has to offer. Last season did them quite well, earning the title of Minnesota 1 in State playdowns and having the opportunity to represent the wonderful state in the Junior National competition in Willmar, MN. Out of the 10 junior women’s teams competing,With the guidance of, Kent Bahr, Team Quello placed 5th. A very good accomplishment for the first year at Junior Nationals! Meet the team:
Skip: Emily Quello.
Originating from Bemidji, Emily is a freshman attending University of North Dakota pursuing a marketing degree. Going into her 14th season, she has been curling since the age of 5 and has loved it ever since. Emily has attended 3 Minnesota junior state playdowns, 1 junior national’s competition and this past April she participated in the U18 competition representing the United States in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In her spare time outside of curling she loves to attend social events, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Born and raised in Bemidji, MN Hannah is a sophomore at Bemidji State University working towards a Bachelor degree in Social Work. In her curling career, which started at the age of 10, she has competed in 2 Minnesota state playdowns, a Women’s Challenge round, and 1 Junior National competition. Aside from school, work, and curling, Hannah enjoys spending time with her family and friends. Being from Bemidji, she also loves to spend time outside, and an avid lover of winter she thinks she’s in the right place.
Second: Leah Yavarow.
Leah is 15 years old and a sophomore at Bemidji High School. She participates on the volleyball and golf teams there. This year will be her 10th year curling, 4th year curling competitively. She has competed in 2 Minnesota state playdowns, and 1 Women’s Challenge Round. Lastly, she attended the USA High Performance Camp as an individual for the past 2 years.
Lead: Mackenzie Ritchie.
Mackenzie is 18 years old, from Bemidji, MN. She graduated in 2016 from Bemidji High School and is now attending the University of North Dakota. Not yet decided on a major, she plans to explore her options by just taking some general classes. She has been curling since she was in 5th grade and has loved it since. Her accomplishments within the sport have been: participating in Junior State Playdowns twice and winning in 2016. She has also participated in Junior Nationals last year representing as team Minnesota 1.
With high hopes this coming season, Team Quello would like to graciously ask if you would be willing to participate in our accomplishments by sponsoring them this year! Any amount helps and will be greatly appreciated. Due to USCA standards only allowing 5 sponsors on the jackets, the top 5 contributors/businesses will have their logo/name, embroidered on the jackets the girls will wear while competing. Others will be recognized on our Facebook page (facebook.com/TeamQuello). The average amount given by each sponsor last year was around $200, but as stated earlier, any amount will help.
